 abstract={Based on research studies and narrative texts relating to a small fragment of the city of Łódź bearing the name “Szlezyng”, the author shows the initial overlap and the gradual separation, lasting three centuries (i.e. from “the beginnings” to “now”), of the two meanings of the name: the geometrical one, whose reference is the material urban space, and the cultural one, denoting the non-material space of quotidian experience and everyday discourse. In his contribution to the anthropology of (non)presence, the author uses the conceptual figure of a trace and is inspired by theoretical ideas of Michel de Certeau},
